Rachel Griffith is a Sacramento native and local cooking and recipe contest competitor. Chef Rachel has showcased her Award-Winning recipes at various Northern California fairs & festivals, and has been featured on local News stations to showcase her award-winning and innovative recipes.
She can also be found Guest-Chef’ing at events in the Greater Sacramento area, including the Auburn Home Show‘s Spring and Fall events, Tomato Fest, the Gold Country Fair and the Mountain Mandarin Festival. As a competitor in the annual Mountain Mandarin Festival (held at the Auburn Fair Grounds each November), she humbly took 1st place in 2012 for the “Side Dish” category for her Brie Toast Points with Homemade Mandarin Onion Marmalade and Roasted Garlic. This recipe also took the “Best of Show” title at the festival, as well as the “Sponsor’s Choice” award. She took home the gold again in 2013 in the “Sponsor’s Choice” category with her Mandarin Grilled Cheese on Rye with Whiskey Bacon Mandarin Marmalade. In 2014 her Spicy Bacon Brownies with Spiced Pecan Brittle took the BLUE RIBBON at the Gold Country Fair. She also took home a RED RIBBON for her Kahlua Mint Cupcakes.
Rachel loves interacting with her clients in their most comfortable environment: THEIR HOME! Growing up in a family that was VERY “food-centric”, Rachel understands how important meal time is – from creation, to the moment it is eaten: “It is always a privilege to be invited into someone’s home to prepare a meal for them from scratch, that they can be proud to serve their special guests. I take it very seriously. I treat my customers like family.”
As the mother of two VERY HUNGRY kids, Rachel is a huge proponent of getting her kids involved in the kitchen. Both of her children have entered recipe contests, and have a passion for cooking.
“My daughter is only 11, but she just lights up when she sees a set of ingredients that she thinks will work together. She’s not afraid to combine ingredients that aren’t necessarily famous for going together. She loves to take risks and just see if it works. When they work, she is excited to share them with her friends and family at special events with such pride in herself. My son is going to be 18 this year, and has been preparing from-scratch meals for the family at least once a week for over 5 years now. He is brave in his ability to hand intense heat and LOVES garlic, peppers, and onions. Not surprisingly, his specialty is homemade salsas…and we are NOT complaining one bit! YUM”
While you’re out looking for Chef Rachel at upcoming festivals, don’t be surprised if you find her husband Ryan whipping up something INCREDIBLE too! He has taken 1st place for his Mandarin Orange and Dark Chocolate Creme Brule, and has entered various competitions with his wife and children. He is also the brilliant eye behind the lens of all of Chef Rachel’s amazing photos.
“In our house, cooking is most definitely a family affair, and almost always a group effort. We all have special talents in the kitchen; I believe that everyone does. Food can be looked at as a challenge or as a chore. Our family welcomes challenges, and food happens to be our favorite brand.”
Chef Rachel Griffith aims to create custom meals and menus based on the customer’s exact desires. She prides herself on accommodating special dietary needs and restrictions, and pays special attention to allergens. Says Chef Rachel, ” Growing up with a severe allergy to Ginger (of all things), I know first-hand what it is like to be afraid to eat because the food may contain a particular allergen. No person should have to live in fear of food. I have a special place in my heart for people with particularly tricky food needs, and aim to make their experience decadent, delicious, and most importantly – SAFE!”
When asked what she would consider the most important advice she could give anyone looking for a chef or caterer, Chef Rachel said, “TASTE, TASTE, TASTE! A caterer should never make you take their word for it. It’s YOUR menu, YOU should love each and every bite passionately! A complementary tasting should ALWAYS be included in your consultation.”
